Oyo Assembly Pledges Support For Oyo Executive Arm, Advice Journalists To Shun Fake News

The 9th Oyo State House of Assembly has pass the vote of confidence on the Executive Governor of the State, Engr Seyi Makinde and his Deputy, Engr Rauf Olaniyan as they are in full support of the development of the current administration and plead to continue to show support.

This was made known at the plenary held on Tuesday, 12th of May 2020 

The People Democratic Party, Chief Whip, Hon Akintunde Olajide raised the motion to pass the vote of confidence on the Executive Arms of Government and was seconded by the Chief Whip of Action Progressive Congress, Hon Isiaka Kazeem.

Speaking on the vote of confidence, House Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Alarape supported the move for the House to speak out their immense support to the administration of Seyi Makinde and his Deputy Rauf Olaniyan. Alarape said, it is high time for all the lawmakers to made public their support for Makinde government, irrespective of political parties.

Speaker, Rt Hon Debo Ogundoyin commended the 9th assembly for the support shown to the Executives as he believes the confidence shown will boast their moral and push them to put in their best for the betterment of the State.

The Assembly has called on Journalists across the state to show respect in discharging information to the public as false information are taking over a credible information because of the level of professionalism.

The motion also called on journalists attached to the Assembly and freelance journalists to always be fair and unbias in their news reporting.

The Majority Leader of the Oyo Assembly, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin made this known while discussing the confusion caused by the risen of fake information in the state.

Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi while speaking as a trained journalist, he advised pressmen covering the House seatings to always be factual, do much investigation on news tips before publication.

"Journalism is about research, and as a Journalist, I am aware that source of an information is very important"

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin who adopted the motion and commend the efforts of the Assembly pressmen in making the House activities known to public, also implored all the pen writers to desist from confusing journalism, said every published news is meant for the world to consume and it is against the ethics of journalism to report fake news.

Ogundoyin rubbished a report spreading around that, there was a time a political leader gathered lawmakers in an Hotel with clandestine meeting to impeach governor or his deputy.
