SMPN AWARDS 2020: Century Of Attendees, Dignitaries Agog As Members Get Awarded Virtually

Hundreds of members and dignitaries, on Saturday,  graced the maiden edition of the Student Media Personalities of Nigeria (SMPN) AWARDS 2020 themed "Celebrating Excellence Within", an Award celebration held virtually. 

The award celebration was agog by members from the 12 institution chapters of SMPN of which the glamour and colorful effect given to the event can never be overestimated.

While delivering his opening Address, the sponsor of the SMPN AWARDS 2020, Mr. Ohimai Godwin Ohiaze reminisced how he joined various press groups when he was observing his varsity education at the University of Ibadan. He further maintained that he get to know about SMPN through the Convener, Mr. Anthony Dimnwaka popularly known as Devoyce, an OAP and presenter on 32FM Radio Network.

"I Joined various press clubs in school ranging from joining the association of English student, then to the Union of Campus Journalist where i served as the president in 2006.

Mr. Ohimai in his speech added that engaging in Journalistic activities while in campus helped as a step stone to what he's currently doing as a guru in the media and Communication profession.

He further pledged his continuous support to the development of the Student Media Personalities of Nigeria (SMPN) stating that he would love to mentor some of the great products of the association.

In his Welcome Remarks, the  founder and convener of Student Media Personalities of Nigeria, Mr. Anthony Dimnwaka described the Award Night as a great and special occasion for himself and all members of the association. 

He reiterated the fact that the insurgence of the Coronavirus disease has really done more good than bad adding that the association still tried to do excellently virtually despite the virus' restriction.

He further extend his profound appreciation to all members, Executives, Board of Directors and everyone who have contributed their quota and sleepless night towards the development of the association.

He also draw the attendees attention down to when he had the dream to form the organization when he was still an undergraduate at the premier University of Ibadan of which he send his special greetings to his friend, Paul Alasiri for the usual supporters and advise.

He congratulated the winners for the job well done as he enjoined them to be more productive and effective in subsequent years.
The KeyNote Speaker, Mr. Lekan Otufodinrin in his keynote address titled "How To Effectively Leverage On Media To Be A Star" maintained that becoming a star is desirable but it takes hard work and lots of discipline not to be complacent or loose one's head when it matters most. 

He added that in order to leverage effectively on the media, One need to be knowledgeable in whatever area of expertise she's  known for adding that being knowledgeable is what will justify being a star which the media will promote the person for.

He however enjoins young media enthusiasts to seek internship learn a lot to grow and volunteers to showcase their talents in the industry.

"Take advantage of opportunities offered by media NGOs and support organizations for training.

"Participate in media awards and fellowships, Learn from best practices globally and replicate locally. Make professional use of social media to promote yourself as an authority in the content you have.

"Don't be intimidated by the accomplishments of veterans. You have a digital advantage you can maximize. Have goals you want to achieve with timelines to be sure you making reasonable progress". He said.

He also congratulated the winners of all the categories, urging them not to rest on their oars but raise the bar in whatever they have been doing that earned them the bestowed honour.

Chairman of the Award Committee, Mr. Damilola Dixon in his remark appreciate members and stakeholders of the association for showing great courage not minding the storm that came with tje year 2020 adding that they all contributed to the success of SMPN, and that's why they have to be celebrated.

Mr. Damilola who was ably represented by a member of the Award Commitee and the Human Resources Director of the organization, Miss. Blessing Alasa appreciated all members of the commitee for the hard work and effort put into the virtual award.

He as well appreciate the Convener, KeyNote speaker, Mr. Lekan Otufodinrin, Mr. Godwin Ohimai, Staff Adviser Mr. Olugbade Damilola, Radio OAP, Paul Alasiri and the host of others.
