If Not For Prayer, Nigeria Would Be Far Worse – RCCG Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has maintained that Nigeria would be in a far more critical state if not for the power of persistent prayers. 

The referred cleric who made this statement while speaking on Sunday, June 1, during RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service in Lagos, emphasized the crucial role of intercession in keeping the country from collapse.

Addressing criticisms from those who question the effectiveness of constant prayers and fasting, Adeboye responded:

“Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting where is the result?’ I laugh. If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop.”

He further reminded the congregation that God continues to influence the course of human affairs, urging believers to never stop interceding:

“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those praying would pause for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings,”

Preaching on the theme “Shadow of the Almighty,” Pastor Adeboye shared testimonies of divine protection experienced by RCCG members and properties around the world. He cited a flood incident in the U.S. where several homes were submerged—except the one that hosted an RCCG house fellowship.

“House number eight, with the RCCG sign, was the only one spared. House after house was flooded, but house number eight, the only one with a sign that read, ‘House Fellowship of RCCG holds here’ remained untouched. That is not a coincidence that is divine covering,” he explained.

Another example was the fire incident at Otedola Bridge in Lagos, where surrounding buildings were destroyed, but the RCCG building remained unharmed. Adeboye pointed to these as signs of God’s invisible yet powerful covering over the church.

“Buildings before and after were destroyed, but the RCCG building stood. That’s not ordinary,” he stated as the church media team displayed images of the incident.

He urged Christians to remain unwavering in faith, stressing that God’s protection, while not always visible, is constant.

“Your safety is in God. His protection may not be visible, but it is always present. Whether young or old, in peace or in crisis, the Almighty covers His own,” he declared.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Folu Adeboye led heartfelt prayers for Nigeria, its leaders, and the nation’s security forces.

“Let us ask God to have mercy on our president and give him peace, so he may find joy in his tenure,” she prayed.

The service also honoured security and paramilitary officers, reinforcing the church’s commitment to praying for national peace and safety.
