The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed 115 of its personnel as part of an ongoing internal restructuring to restore professionalism and discipline within the agency.
The intelligence agency announced the development through a statement on its verified X handle, noting that the dismissals were carried out as part of wider reforms within the Service.
According to the DSS, the action became necessary to ensure that the organisation remains committed to high ethical standards and effective intelligence operations.
“The public is hereby informed that a total of 115 personnel have been dismissed over a period as part of the ongoing reforms in the Department of State Services,” the statement read.
The agency also cautioned Nigerians to be wary of former officers who continue to impersonate DSS operatives to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
It particularly mentioned individuals such as Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who had earlier been disowned by the Service.
“Some of the dismissed personnel are still posing as DSS operatives to deceive the public. We strongly advise citizens to avoid any official dealings with such individuals,” the statement added.
A senior intelligence source within the agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the move was part of a long-term effort to rebuild public trust.
“The DSS is undergoing a transformation process to ensure integrity is non-negotiable. Anyone found guilty of misconduct will face strict disciplinary measures,” the source said.
Furthermore, the Service reaffirmed its resolve to uphold professionalism and accountability across its ranks.
It is assured that the internal reforms will continue until the agency achieves total efficiency in line with its mandate of protecting national security.
The latest purge comes amid renewed efforts by the DSS to improve transparency, restore public confidence, and strengthen its operational structure across the country.
