Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has released what he described as documentary evidence to support his claim that the Oyo State Government received ₦50 billion from the Federal Government as intervention funds following the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.
Fayose made the disclosure in a statement issued on December 28, 2025, two days after he made the allegation during a national television programme. He said Governor Seyi Makinde had challenged him to provide evidence of the claim, prompting the release of the documents.
Recall that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde challenged Fayose, to provide evidence to support his claim that he received N50bn from President Bola Tinubu as reported by earlier today by Naija Metro News.
According to Fayose, only ₦4.5 billion was allegedly disbursed to victims of the explosion, while the remaining funds were diverted for other purposes. He accused the Oyo State governor of mismanaging the intervention funds and alleged that the money was channelled towards political ambitions.
He further linked the alleged diversion of funds to the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Makinde’s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government.
Fayose said although it was not his practice to make official government documents public, he decided to do so in the interest of transparency and accountability.
“Even though it is not in my character to go public with official government documents, I had to do this so that Nigerians will know who is saying the truth and who has not been sincere with the people of Oyo State,” he said.
The former governor also challenged Makinde to seek legal redress if the allegations were false, insisting that he stood by his claims. He added that there were additional documents relating to other federal intervention funds allegedly received by Oyo State, as well as records concerning the state’s internally generated revenue, which he said he could release at a later time.
“I don’t say what I can’t prove,” Fayose stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government had yet to issue an official response to Fayose’s latest claims.
