The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that they jointly visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where the President allegedly promised to interfere in the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his behalf.
Speaking during a live media chat, Wike described the allegation as unfortunate and unfounded, accusing Makinde of acting out of frustration. He categorically denied that any such meeting involving himself, Makinde and President Tinubu ever took place.
Wike further accused Makinde of reneging on agreements previously reached within the party, alleging that the Oyo State governor, alongside former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, is responsible for the crisis currently rocking the PDP.
According to the FCT minister, Makinde and Wabara are deliberately undermining the party and pushing it towards a one-party state, only to turn around and blame President Tinubu for the PDP’s internal problems.
He also dismissed the recent PDP convention, describing it as illegal. Wike argued that the convention was not supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that more than 19 states were yet to conduct valid congresses, a requirement for a legitimate national convention.
Wike maintained that due process must be followed if the PDP is to resolve its internal disputes and reposition itself effectively.
