A middle-aged man, Lekan Lasisi, has been apprehended by Ogun State Police after a dispute over a N4,000 debt led to his stepbrother’s death in Abule Tuntun, Odeda Local Government Area.
The incident happened on Dec 19 when Lasisi confronted his brother over recurring debts, causing family embarrassment.
According to Lasisi, the deceased had gone to market with goods when a creditor approached him about an unpaid debt. When his brother returned, Lasisi confronted him, leading to a scuffle. The deceased allegedly brought out a cutlass; Lasisi pulled out a gun, which accidentally discharged, hitting his brother.
“I didn’t intend to kill him,” Lasisi said in an interrogation video. “I rushed to him when he was hit because I was worried I’d killed my brother.”
Lasisi appealed for mercy, citing his sick mother and bedridden sibling. Police confirmed the incident and said the case was transferred to SCID, Eleweran, for investigation.
