Nollywood actress, Didi Ekanem has sparked fresh controversy after sharing advice for young women about marriage and financial independence.
According to the actress, jumping into marriage early doesn’t automatically guarantee financial security.
“Many men are stingy, especially in this generation,” she noted. “You’ll do yourself a great disservice if you use the years meant for building yourself—financially, mentally, and emotionally—on marriage too early. After just one year of begging your husband for everything, you’ll be exhausted and frustrated with that marriage.”
The actress, who openly admits she’s not yet married, emphasizes that her perspective isn’t just theoretical. “I have enough married women around me to know what I’m saying,” she added. Her message is clear: before dreaming of a wedding ring, ensure you’ve built a solid financial foundation—she recommends at least N10 million in your account—so that marriage becomes a partnership, not a burden.
In a society where the pressure to marry can be intense, Didi Ekanem’s advice is a refreshing reminder that personal growth and financial independence should come first. After all, a stable and fulfilled individual is better equipped to navigate the complexities of marriage.
