BREAKING: Adelabu Resigns As Power Minister, To Pursue Oyo Guber Ambition

 

The Minister of Power, Adelabu Adebayo, has formally resigned from his position in the Federal Government to pursue his political ambition of becoming the Governor of Oyo State.

 

In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adelabu expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration and contribute to reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.

“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as the Honourable Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter stated.

 

Adelabu appreciated the confidence reposed in him by the President and noted that serving under the administration had been a privilege, particularly in advancing efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s electricity sector in line with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He explained that his decision to step down was driven by his desire to fully commit to his gubernatorial aspiration in Oyo State, stating that the move would allow him to dedicate his time and resources to the political pursuit.

“ My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State,” he added.

The development is already generating significant reactions within political circles in Oyo State, where Adelabu is considered a prominent contender with strong grassroots appeal and technocratic credentials.

Political analysts note that his exit from the Federal Executive Council may signal the intensification of early permutations ahead of the governorship race, particularly within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
