Wike, Makinde’s Camps Signal End to PDP Crisis, Readiness for 2027 Polls

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party have indicated a willingness to resolve internal disputes through dialogue, assuring Nigerians that the party is reorganising its ranks and preparing for the 2027 general elections.

Party stakeholders said efforts are underway to bridge divisions among competing factions, with senior figures expressing openness to a reconciliation framework aimed at restoring cohesion within the opposition platform.

According to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, discussions around a peace arrangement have gained momentum, as influential actors within the party consider compromises that could stabilise its structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.

 

“Many leaders in the party understand the importance of unity at this stage,” Turaki said. 

“If reaching an agreement means withdrawing pending legal disputes or adjusting positions for the collective interest of the party, that option is being considered.”

Moreover, the reconciliation push is widely viewed as part of a broader strategy to reposition the PDP as a credible alternative in national politics. 

Internal disagreements over leadership influence and political alignments have, in recent months, deepened divisions among prominent members.

Some of those tensions have been associated with political blocs linked to figures such as Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde, whose supporters have been involved in competing power struggles within the party.

However, party insiders insist that reconciliation remains achievable. 

They argue that the PDP’s long-term viability depends on its ability to rebuild internal trust and present a unified front before the next national polls.

Furthermore, leaders said preparations for the 2027 elections have already begun internally, with assurances that the party will contest all major positions across the country.

“We are focused on rebuilding confidence among our members and supporters,” a senior party figure said. 

“The PDP will be fully prepared to participate in the next elections and offer Nigerians a viable political choice.”

The success of the reconciliation effort could significantly shape the opposition landscape in Nigeria as parties begin early positioning for the 2027 electoral contest.
