Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 presidential election will mark the end of his long-standing ambition to lead Nigeria.
Atiku, who has contested for the presidency on several occasions since 1992, made the declaration on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
He said, “The 2027 election will be my last outing.”
When asked why Nigerians should support him after multiple failed attempts and concerns over his age, the former Vice President said the country’s challenge remained that of leadership.
According to him, Nigeria requires experienced leadership capable of bridging generational gaps in governance.
He argued that he represents a link between Nigeria’s past and its future, insisting that his experience remains relevant to addressing the nation’s problems.
Atiku also stressed the need for structured leadership development for young Nigerians, saying the country must deliberately invest in training future leaders.
He maintained that such initiatives would help prepare a new generation to take over governance effectively and sustainably.
