A grieving mother, Mrs Favour Ayuba, has stirred widespread online reactions after a viral video showed her urging her late son, Promise, to avenge his death following a deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State.
The woman, visibly distraught, made the remarks during a moment of mourning, days after her son was killed by suspected gunmen in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred on March 29 during Palm Sunday, left no fewer than 24 persons dead and several others injured, further heightening tension in the state.
In the widely circulated video, Mrs Ayuba, who spoke in Hausa, appeared emotionally overwhelmed as she revealed she had not eaten since the incident that claimed her son’s life.
She was also seen bringing out a cutlass wrapped in white cloth, which she placed inside the coffin of the deceased as part of her farewell gesture.
“If you want me to forget, baby, avenge your death. I carried you in my womb for nine months; you suckled at my breast. Baby, I trust you revenge for me, revenge for me. Please, wherever they are, follow them and avenge your death,” she said.
Amid sobs, she referenced the biblical figure Gideon, expressing hope that her son would triumph over his killers just as the scriptural warrior did in battle.
“Today is your birthday. I thank God for your life. You don’t like seeing me cry, and I will not continue to weep. I have not eaten since Sunday, but from today I will eat. I named you Promise Gideon Ayuba, and Gideon went to war and returned victorious,” she added.
