Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has indicated interest in contesting a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the ex-president, amid widespread speculation on social media on Monday.
According to a letter dated April 3 and reportedly signed by Yusuf, he notified stakeholders of his intention to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress.
He stated in the letter that his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to effective leadership and foster development in his constituency.
Ahmad, in a post on his X handle, said the move followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders.
He wrote that Yusuf had formally communicated his ambition to contest the seat on the platform of the APC.
Yusuf had largely stayed out of the public political space since his father left office.
