A housewife in Sokoto State has allegedly poured hot oil on her husband, Bello Abubakar, following accusations that he was communicating with another woman.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Yar Gabas area of Sokoto metropolis, leaving the victim with injuries to his private part and other parts of his body.
Abubakar, who denied the allegation of infidelity, attributed his wife’s action to what he described as a recurring spiritual condition, claiming she had been experiencing unusual behaviour in recent times.
Recounting the incident, he said it happened shortly after he returned from the mosque where he had gone to observe early morning prayers.
“I went to the mosque for Subhi prayer and slept there afterwards. When I returned home around 8am, I met her in tears, but she refused to explain what was wrong,” he said.
He explained that he later prepared to step out after performing ablution and reciting the Qur’an, but his wife asked him to wait.
According to him, while he was lying unclothed on the bed, she entered the room holding a cup, which he initially assumed contained water for prayers.
He said he was suddenly hit by a burning sensation when she poured the hot substance on him, resulting in severe injuries.
Abubakar added that he is currently receiving treatment at a Specialist Hospital in Sokoto and is responding to medical care.
A senior brother to the victim, Tasiu Abubakar, said the couple had lived peacefully prior to the incident but alleged that the woman’s mother had initially opposed the marriage, suggesting possible external influence.
He, however, disclosed that both families had opted for reconciliation and decided not to pursue legal action over the matter.
Efforts to reach the wife and her relatives for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said he would look into the case but had yet to provide further details.
