Double-T's Claim That Makinde Endorsed AKT’s Third Term is False

A group of concerned voters in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State has staged a protest against what they described as selfishness and self-centeredness among some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The protesting voters alleged that a party figure popularly known as “Double T” has been spreading false claims that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has endorsed a third-term bid for the incumbent lawmaker representing Lagelu State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Akintunde (AKT).

 

According to the group, such claims are misleading and aimed at deceiving party members and the general public. They insisted that Governor Makinde would not support what they termed a “selfish agenda” that undermines democratic principles.

The voters questioned why a single individual, after serving two terms in office, would still seek a third term, stressing that Lagelu is blessed with many capable, intelligent, and vibrant individuals who deserve the opportunity to serve.

“Is Hon. Akintunde the only qualified person in Lagelu? When will it be the turn of other competent individuals to represent the constituency?” the group queried.

They further dismissed speculations that the lawmaker could emerge as Speaker of the House if allowed a third term, describing the claim as false and unrealistic. According to them, such an arrangement would be politically unbalanced, noting that both the governorship and speakership positions cannot be concentrated within the same axis.

The protesters also addressed arguments by some party loyalists who believe the incumbent’s experience justifies another term. They countered that the experience being referenced is a product of the opportunity he has already enjoyed, adding that others would also gain experience if given the same chance.

Reiterating their stance, the voters declared their opposition to any form of imposition, warning that forcing a third-term agenda on the people could lead to internal division and possible electoral loss for the party.

“We say no to dictatorship. Democracy must be allowed to take its course. Lagelu deserves fresh representation,” the group stated.

They concluded by urging party leaders to respect the will of the people and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of future elections.
