Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu secured more than 10 million votes during the recent presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress, describing the figures as manufactured and misleading.

Speaking shortly after participating in the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress in his Ajiya ward in Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Atiku argued that the outcome announced by the APC did not reflect a genuine democratic exercise.
The former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate maintained that Nigerians should not be swayed by the ruling party’s figures ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to him, citizens must instead focus on evaluating the current administration’s handling of the economy and governance.
“Attributing such massive numbers to the exercise does not make it credible,” Atiku told journalists.
“What Nigerians should pay attention to is the hardship people are facing daily under the present administration.”
Moreover, the former vice-president accused the Tinubu-led government of failing to respond adequately to worsening economic conditions across the country.
He said many Nigerians were struggling with rising living costs, unemployment and insecurity, adding that voters would ultimately decide the government’s fate at the polls.
He further urged Nigerians to use the next general election as an opportunity to support a different political direction, insisting that the ADC offered a better alternative to the ruling party.
Commenting on the turnout at the ADC presidential primary, Atiku expressed optimism over the participation of young people, describing it as a sign of growing public interest in the party’s agenda.
“The presence of many young Nigerians here is encouraging,” he said.
“Whenever youths identify with a movement in large numbers, it usually shows they believe it can improve their future.”
Furthermore, Atiku dismissed concerns about internal disagreements within the ADC, insisting that the party remained focused on building a strong platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the party was confident of overcoming its internal issues and presenting a formidable challenge during the presidential race.
“Our focus is on offering Nigerians a credible alternative,” he added.
“We are convinced that the ADC has the capacity to address the country’s challenges and restore confidence in leadership.”
The APC had earlier announced that Tinubu polled 10,999,160 votes to secure the party’s presidential ticket for reelection during its primary election held over the weekend.
