Former Deputy Senate President Quits APC

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent political developments within the party in Delta State as part of his decision.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of APC in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege said his decision followed consultations with political associates and supporters, adding that his interests and those of his constituents would be better pursued outside the party structure.

He stated that remaining in the party under the prevailing circumstances would not allow him to effectively advance the aspirations of his people. “I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he said.

The former lawmaker also expressed appreciation to the APC for the platform it provided him, particularly his emergence as Deputy Senate President during the 9th National Assembly. He, however, requested that his name be removed from all party records and communication channels.

Omo-Agege further maintained that his political focus remains the pursuit of development, effective representation, and broader service to Delta Central, Delta State, and the country at large, adding that his next steps would be guided by these objectives.

His resignation comes months after he contested the APC senatorial primary in Delta Central, where he lost the ticket to the incumbent senator, Ede Dafinone, in a closely watched exercise within the party.
