Oyo Abduction: Tinubu Sympathises With Makinde, Assures Rescue of Kidnapped Victims

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during a bandit attack on schools in Oyo State, describing the act as barbaric.

The President gave the assurance on Monday while reacting to the abduction incident that occurred in the Esiele community, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Bandits had invaded the community last Friday and kidnapped staff, students, and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said security agencies were working tirelessly to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

He sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government, and residents of Oyo State over the incident, while assuring them of the Federal Government’s support in securing the release of the abducted victims.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter. I also sympathise with the families of the kidnapped victims,” the President said.

Tinubu disclosed that the Federal Government was collaborating with the Oyo State Government to ensure the safe rescue of all the victims.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara states for their swift response and deployment of tactical and Intelligence Response Team (IRT) operatives to the area.

According to the President, the Inspector-General of Police is personally leading the technology-driven rescue operation following his directive.

“We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he added.

President Tinubu further stressed the need for the establishment of state police, noting that rising cases of kidnapping underscore the importance of decentralised policing to secure underserved communities.

He urged the National Assembly to expedite action on legislation for the creation of state police.
