Two Students Killed as Suspected Cultists Invade Osun Hostel

Two undergraduates have reportedly lost their lives following a suspected cult-related attack in the Ede area of Osun State.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, also left several other students injured after armed men allegedly invaded an off-campus apartment occupied by the victims.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that about six students were attacked during the violent raid believed to be linked to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups operating in the area.

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said the assailants stormed the residence in what appeared to be a retaliatory mission.

“The students were inside the apartment when the attackers forced their way in and assaulted them with dangerous weapons. Some sustained severe injuries, while two eventually died,” the source said.

It was further gathered that the injured victims were rushed to a hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

An anti-cultism advocacy group, Naija Confra, also confirmed the attack, alleging that suspected members of the Aye confraternity targeted a Buccaneer member identified simply as Dara before launching the assault.

According to the platform, several high-ranking members of the rival cult group were reportedly present in the apartment when the attackers struck.

The group alleged that two persons, including a member identified as the “first shipmate,” were killed during the attack, while others sustained critical injuries.

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that a cult clash occurred in the area.

He, however, stated that only one death had been officially confirmed by the police.

“Suspected cultists clashed on Tuesday and one person was killed. Investigation into the incident is ongoing,” Ojelabi said.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over recurring cult-related violence in parts of Osun State.

Recalled that the police command had in March arrested five suspected cult members linked to violent clashes in the Ilesa area of the state.
