Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has mocked Governor Seyi Makinde’s reported 2027 presidential ambition, declaring that the move was “dead on arrival". 
Wike also accused factions within the PDP of deceiving Nigerians with claims that the opposition party had entered into a coalition arrangement with the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the next general election.
Speaking during the inspection of ongoing road projects in Abuja on Thursday, the former Rivers governor described the purported PDP-APM partnership as political “419,” insisting that no official agreement exists between the two parties.
“There is no alliance anywhere between the PDP and APM,” Wike said.
“People are simply trying to create confusion in the political space and mislead Nigerians ahead of 2027.”
The minister argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission was fully aware that the PDP remained an independent political party and had not merged or entered into any formal coalition arrangement.
According to him, the ongoing screening of aspirants by one faction of the PDP further proves that the party is preparing to field candidates under its own platform rather than through any alliance.
Wike further took a swipe at Makinde, alleging that the Oyo governor was merely attempting to use the APM platform to pursue his presidential aspiration.
“What is happening is that Makinde wants to actualise his presidential ambition through another platform because he knows the reality within the PDP,” he said.
The FCT minister maintained that the political calculations surrounding the alleged coalition lacked credibility and would not change the balance of power ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Moreover, Wike questioned why Governor Bala Mohammed never mentioned any PDP-APM arrangement when discussions about leadership and party direction were ongoing within the opposition camp.
The controversy followed comments credited to Makinde, who reportedly expressed confidence that cooperation between PDP elements and APM would allow the opposition to present candidates across all elective positions in the next election cycle.
However, Wike insisted that such claims were misleading and politically dishonest, stressing that Nigerians should not be deceived by what he called “manufactured alliances” lacking legal and institutional backing.
