Family Announces Funeral Arrangements for Veteran Yoruba Actor Kola Oyewo

The family of the late Chief Kola Oyewo has announced the funeral arrangements for the veteran actor.

In a statement issued by the Balogun Oyekola Oyewo Memorial Committee, the three-day funeral programme will run from Wednesday, August 5, to Friday, August 7, 2026.

“With gratitude to God for a life of purpose, honour and enduring impact, the entire Bangbola Oyewo family of the Ese-Ola Royal House, Oba-Ile, announces the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, colleague, esteemed traditional ruler and veteran of the Nigerian theatre,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the wake-keep and Service of Songs will be held on Wednesday, August 5, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Igboya, Ile-Ife.

It added that on Thursday, August 6, a Commendation Mass will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Igboya, Ile-Ife.

The statement further said an exhibition of Dr. Kola Oyewo’s works and photographs would be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Pit Theatre, African Studies Building, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, while an Artistes’ Night featuring tributes and cultural performances would follow from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University.

According to the committee, on Friday, August 7, a motorcade conveying the deceased’s remains will depart for Oba-Ile at about 7:00 a.m.

It added that a lying-in-state ceremony would be held at the Ese-Ola Compound at about 9:45 a.m., followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oba-Ile, at 11:00 a.m.

“The interment, which is strictly for family members and close associates, will take place at Labaluyege Villa, Oba-Ile, at about 12:45 p.m., while the reception will follow at Aderounmu Grammar School Field, Oba-Ile, by 1:00 p.m.,” the statement added.
