Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has alleged that members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) were mobilised against peaceful protesters during an anti-insecurity demonstration in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a Facebook post accompanied by a video, Sowore alleged that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, were behind the move.
Naija Metro News had reported that the protest, organised by the Take It Back Movement, called for an end to insecurity and the safe return of kidnapped schoolchildren.
Sowore said: “Gov. Seyi Makinde and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, have reportedly mobilized elements within the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) against peaceful Take it Back Movement activists who were demanding an end to insecurity and the safe return of kidnapped school children in Ibadan, Oyo State,” he said.
Sowore argued that such actions could fuel wider public resistance rather than suppress dissent.
“This is exactly how movements grow. The #EndSARS protests gained momentum because authorities under the tyrannical regime of Muhammadu Buhari responded to legitimate grievances with hostility instead of addressing the issues being raised,” he stated.
He further maintained that the government’s focus should be on addressing insecurity and protecting citizens.
“The priority should be rescuing kidnapped children, securing schools and protecting lives, not targeting citizens exercising their democratic rights. But they will never learn until it is too late!” Sowore added.
Neither Governor Makinde, Seyi Tinubu nor NANS had publicly responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
