The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.

The commission announced on Sunday that political parties now have until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, to complete the submission process, instead of the earlier deadline of Saturday, July 11.
The extension was disclosed in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to INEC, the decision followed a request by the Inter-Party Advisory Council on behalf of political parties that were unable to conclude the upload of their candidates' details before the original deadline.
The electoral body said the revised deadline was approved to ensure all eligible political parties have sufficient opportunity to complete the nomination process within the provisions of the Electoral Act.
It noted that the extension reflects its commitment to conducting an inclusive electoral process while adhering to legal requirements governing candidate nominations.
INEC urged political parties yet to complete the exercise to take advantage of the additional window to upload the required information before the new deadline expires.
The extension comes amid reports that some political parties encountered challenges in meeting the initial deadline for submitting the names and personal particulars of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through the commission's online nomination portal. The ruling All Progressives Congress had earlier announced the successful upload of its 471 candidates before the deadline was extended.
