Known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices Programme (C.L.I.C.K.D.), the initiative allows eligible applicants to acquire digital tools without paying the full cost upfront.
The scheme is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Officials said the programme is designed to expand digital inclusion by removing financial barriers preventing many Nigerians from owning essential technology devices.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, Communications Minister, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the initiative would support Nigerians who need digital equipment for education, employment, entrepreneurship and skills development.
“Access to digital devices is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity for learning, productivity and participation in the modern economy,” Tijani said.
CREDICORP’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, explained that the programme would begin with locally assembled laptops as part of efforts to encourage domestic production.
He said the credit model would enable beneficiaries to repay gradually instead of bearing the entire financial burden at once.
The first phase of the initiative will focus on a 1,000-laptop pilot programme targeted at participants of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
According to Nwagba, 77 beneficiaries in Abuja have already received devices, while distribution to successful applicants in other states will continue in phases.
Applicants interested in the programme are required to visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal and complete an online application form.
The form requires applicants to provide details such as their state of residence, employment status, income range, preferred device and the purpose for needing the equipment.
Applicants can identify themselves as salary earners, freelancers, self-employed individuals, business owners, students, job seekers or National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
They will also be asked to indicate whether they belong to recognised digital talent programmes, including 3MTT, Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub.
The application process also requires users to confirm the accuracy of their information, consent to being contacted about their request and allow CREDICORP and its partners to assess eligibility.
Although the application form provides options for several technology training communities, CREDICORP has so far identified 3MTT fellows as the beneficiaries of the current pilot phase.
The corporation has previously adopted a gradual expansion strategy, beginning its broader consumer credit programme in 2024 with federal civil servants before extending access to more Nigerians.
However, details regarding the interest rate, repayment period and possible initial payment requirements for the C.L.I.C.K.D. loans have not yet been made public.
The Federal Government said the programme represents part of broader efforts to increase digital participation, strengthen technology skills and support Nigerians seeking opportunities in the digital economy.
