Residents in parts of Africa will have the opportunity to witness a partial lunar eclipse on Friday as the Moon moves through the Earth’s shadow, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has announced.

The celestial event, often referred to as a “blood moon” because of the reddish hue the Moon can assume during an eclipse, will also be visible from parts of the Americas, Europe and Western Asia.
NASA said the eclipse is scheduled to take place between August 27 and 28, with visibility varying across different regions.
The agency explained that the phenomenon will commence at about 9:23pm Eastern Time as the Moon enters the penumbral portion of the Earth’s shadow.
At approximately 10:33pm ET, the darker section of the shadow will begin crossing the Moon, making part of its surface appear obscured.
The eclipse will reach its maximum phase around 12:12am ET, when over 96 per cent of the lunar disc is expected to be covered by the Earth’s shadow.
The Moon will subsequently move out of the shadow, bringing the eclipse to an end at about 3:01am ET, NASA stated.
The space agency listed Africa among the regions that will experience the partial eclipse, alongside the Americas, Europe and Western Asia.
