Kogi Abduction: Kidnappers Demand N20m Ransom for Each Corps Member

The families of some National Youth Service Corps members abducted in Kogi State are facing ransom demands of N20m for the release of each victim.

The victims were among passengers travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing the NYSC three-week orientation programme when they were intercepted by suspected kidnappers.

The attack occurred along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, with several passengers reportedly taken into the surrounding forest.

A relative of one of the abducted corps members disclosed that the kidnappers had reached out to the family and demanded N20m before their daughter could regain her freedom.

According to the relative, “One of our daughters was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting N20 million.”

The abduction has since been confirmed by the Kogi State Police Command, which said NYSC members were among those taken during the attack.

Following the incident, security agencies launched a joint operation to track the abductors and rescue the victims.

The police later announced that 11 people, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved, had been brought out of captivity during the operation.

Despite the development, several other victims, including some corps members, are reportedly still being held by the kidnappers.

The continued captivity has left relatives anxious, particularly amid the reported ransom demands, as families await further information from the authorities.

The affected families have consequently appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify the ongoing operation and secure the safe release of everyone still in captivity.
