Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has disclosed that he earns N503,000 monthly, revealing that Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service receive N900,000.

Oborevwori made the disclosure on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes built for Permanent Secretaries and the presentation of official vehicles to 12 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.
The governor explained that the state government increased the remuneration of Permanent Secretaries after they raised concerns that some directors were earning almost as much as them.
He said, “When the Permanent Secretaries said most of the Directors are receiving almost the same thing with them, we increased their money. Today, Permanent Secretaries... your salary is N900,000, my salary is N503,000, Governor’s salary.”
He added that the Head of Service earns N1m monthly.
Oborevwori said his administration had placed considerable emphasis on the welfare of workers, noting that the government had provided official vehicles to Permanent Secretaries to improve their mobility and efficiency.
The governor disclosed that 302 public officers had benefited from the state’s vehicle loan scheme, while 119 others had accessed the housing loan scheme.
He also said civil servants interested in agriculture had been supported with farm inputs as part of efforts to provide additional sources of income and boost food production.
According to him, 450 senior management officers had also received support to participate in a seven-weekend capacity-building programme organised in partnership with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
Oborevwori said the appointment of 12 new Permanent Secretaries in May ensured that all 25 local government areas in the state were represented at the level.
He maintained that the appointments were based on merit and were not influenced by political recommendations.
The governor further disclosed that Delta State had implemented the new national minimum wage and approved a 13th-month salary for civil servants, beginning from December 2026.
He said the government was preparing an executive bill to the state House of Assembly to provide legal backing for the payment, stressing that the policy would remain in place beyond his tenure.
Oborevwori urged civil servants and political appointees to avoid absenteeism, nepotism, waste, inefficiency, bribery and corruption, assuring that his administration would continue to invest in infrastructure and initiatives aimed at improving service delivery.
He also appealed to beneficiaries of the new residential facilities to maintain the houses, ensure their security and keep the environment clean.
