Police Bust Baby Factory in Ogun, Rescue Six Victims

Police in Ogun State have shut down a suspected baby factory in Mowe and freed two expectant mothers along with four young children.

Six people were taken into custody during the raid.

The operation took place early Monday morning, August 24, 2026, on Toluwalase Street in Abaren Village near Gbarinmole. 

Officers acted on long-running tips about human trafficking and illegal adoption schemes at the site.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the details in a statement issued Tuesday.

The two women rescued were Ilesanmi Foluke, 23 and seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20 and eight months pregnant. Four children, two boys and two girls, were also brought out safely.

Those arrested include Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and nurse Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

Follow-up intelligence led officers to a nearby hospital. There they found Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, who had given birth to a baby boy on August 20. She was receiving care, but her newborn was nowhere to be found.

“The infant’s location remains unknown. That is why the nurse on duty was detained as we work to recover the child,” Babaseyi said.

The entire case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta. 

Detectives will dig deeper into the network’s operations, track down the missing baby, and prepare charges against anyone found responsible.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the team that carried out the raid. 

He stressed that the command remains determined to fight human trafficking, the sale of children, and related crimes.

“We urge every resident to stay alert and share useful information with us. Our intelligence-driven approach will keep protecting lives across the state,” Babaseyi quoted the commissioner as saying.

Similar cases have surfaced elsewhere. In April, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos freed 18 pregnant women and 10 children from a facility in Badagry after operators allegedly advertised on Facebook.

The Ogun investigation continues as officers seek answers for the missing newborn and the full scale of the alleged syndicate.
