Global ride-hailing company, Uber, has announced its decision to discontinue operations in Nigeria after 12 years of providing transportation services in the country.

The company said its Nigerian operations would officially end on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, following a review of its business activities and operations in the country.
Uber began its Nigerian journey in Lagos in 2014 before expanding its ride-hailing services to connect commuters with independent drivers in different parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company described the decision as difficult, saying it understood that its withdrawal could disrupt the routines of customers who had relied on the platform.
“After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” the company stated.
Uber expressed appreciation to Nigerians who used its platform over the years, recalling its role in helping commuters travel to work, visit family and friends and move around the city.
The company also apologised to customers for the inconvenience that may arise from the shutdown and thanked Nigerians for allowing it to serve them.
It further disclosed that its help centre would remain available until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with outstanding questions relating to their accounts.
The exit marks the end of Uber's 12-year presence in the Nigerian ride-hailing market, where it became one of the prominent platforms connecting passengers with drivers through digital technology.
