Oyo 2027: I Ran Ajimobi’s Govt Effectively After Cabinet Dissolution — APM’s Adekanmbi

The 2027 governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has claimed that he effectively ran the affairs of the state government for almost one year during the second term of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Adekanmbi made the claim while featuring on the Morning Show programme of Arise Television, where he spoke on his governorship ambition, experience in government and his plans for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election.

Recalling his experience under Ajimobi, the former Commissioner for Finance said he was recalled into government three days after the governor dissolved his cabinet and subsequently played a significant role in keeping the administration running.

“I tell you, for almost one year of Governor Ajimobi’s second term, after he dissolved his cabinet and I was recalled three days later, I ran the backdrop of the administration effectively,” Adekanmbi said.

The APM candidate said his experience working with different administrations had given him a broad understanding of governance and the opportunities and challenges confronting Oyo State.

Adekanmbi said he had maintained relationships with successive governors of the state and benefited from their experiences, including their successes, visions and regrets.

“I have a robust relationship with all previous governors of Oyo State and I have been fortunate to drink from their wealth of experiences. They have also shared with me some of their visions for the state and some of their regrets, starting from the Great Lam, the Senator Ladoja, Kabiyesi Olubadan, then Governor Akala and more engaging was Governor Ajimobi,” he said.

He stressed the importance of continuity in government, saying policies and projects that were delivering positive results should be sustained, while areas requiring improvement must receive proper attention.

Adekanmbi also addressed concerns about his political relationship with Governor Seyi Makinde and whether he could become a stooge to the incumbent governor if elected in 2027.

He said Makinde had encouraged him to build his own political relationships and chart his own path, insisting that his ultimate loyalty would be to the people of Oyo State.

“So if you ask me, I think I would be a stooge to the over 7.5 million people of Oyo State,” he said.

Adekanmbi emerged as the APM consensus governorship candidate in May 2026 and has since been engaging party stakeholders and residents across the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
