The couple reportedly had a physical confrontation in the early hours of Monday, August 25, during which Adenike was allegedly injured and rendered unconscious, while her husband was said to have left the house.

A former Chairman of the Community Development Association in the area, Adejimi Olawumi, said residents raised the alarm after hearing cries for help and he subsequently went to the couple’s residence.

Olawumi said the woman was found seriously injured and lying in a pool of blood, but efforts to take her to hospital were initially hampered by the unavailability of a vehicle.

According to him, the couple’s son, who was in another room, told residents that he did not witness what transpired between his parents.

Olawumi added that after the community members discovered that Odukoya was no longer at home, they launched a search for him and later received information that he had been knocked down by a vehicle in Ifo.

He said the police took the cleric to a hospital, where his identity was confirmed, while community members subsequently began arrangements to return his remains.

The incident has reportedly brought to the fore concerns about previous disputes between the couple. The late evangelist’s younger sister claimed that they had experienced repeated disagreements and had once sought police intervention to settle a dispute.

She said the couple visited her in April following an altercation and that the matter was later resolved at a police station, after which she counselled them to exercise patience with each other.

The woman said the family was later informed of the latest incident and arrangements were made for the burial of the deceased.

While Adenike was reportedly buried on the day of the incident, Odukoya’s remains were buried on Wednesday, September 2, with some clerics seen conducting burial rites in footage circulating online.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remained unclear as of Wednesday, as the police continued their investigation.

The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the incident, saying, “The police is investigating the incident.”
