Wike’s Support For Tinubu, Not APC – Oshiomhole Clarifies

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has said the political support being offered by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 presidential election is directed at President Bola Tinubu rather than the All Progressives Congress.

Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the Senate, made the clarification during a television interview on Tuesday while discussing the growing disagreement between Wike and some APC governors.

The former Edo State governor said there was no contradiction in Wike supporting Tinubu’s bid for another term while remaining outside the APC, stressing that the minister had consistently made his position known.

According to Oshiomhole, Wike has not presented himself as an APC member and has never claimed that his political activities amount to an endorsement of the ruling party’s candidates in every contest.

“Wike is supporting President Tinubu and not the APC,” Oshiomhole said, adding that both the minister and APC governors were, in their different capacities, supporting Tinubu’s return to office in 2027.

His comments come amid disagreements over Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party political platform that the minister says is focused on mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election.

Wike has repeatedly maintained that supporting Tinubu does not mean that the PDP or other political parties must abandon their candidates in governorship and legislative elections.

The issue has generated a public dispute with some APC governors, who have maintained that their campaign commitment is to Tinubu as well as candidates officially sponsored by the APC across the various levels of the 2027 elections.
