The meeting is expected to focus on ways to halt the cult-related attacks and strengthen security across the state.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Samuel Ojo, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying the security chiefs would review the deteriorating situation and agree on measures to prevent further bloodshed.
Ojo said the government was also concerned about the safety of forests in Osun, particularly following the killing of an Islamic State West Africa Province commander in Owo, Ondo State.
According to him, the development in neighbouring Ondo had highlighted the danger posed by criminal elements using forested areas as hideouts.
“We are bringing the security agencies together to reassure residents and ensure that those responsible for protecting the state remain fully alert,” Ojo said.
He added that the government would not allow forests in Osun to become safe havens for criminals.
The meeting will also address a series of clashes between rival cult groups that have caused deaths and injuries in recent weeks.
Ojo warned that the government would take decisive action against cultists and other violent criminals operating in the state.
He said, “The killings must stop. We cannot allow cult violence or any other form of crime to continue damaging the image of Osun.”
The latest violence occurred in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where two separate cult-related attacks between Friday and Sunday reportedly left two people dead and about five others injured.
Following the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, directed tactical teams to intensify operations and raid suspected criminal hideouts in Osogbo.
The governor’s meeting with the security chiefs is therefore expected to produce stronger measures against cult violence and other criminal activities threatening residents across the state.
