The police said the former governor was released pending further investigation. However, he was directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for another round of interrogation.

The Imo State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to Channels Television.

According to the police spokesperson, Okorocha's arrest was linked to his failure to honour earlier invitations issued by investigators handling the case.

The former governor had initially been scheduled to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, the appointment was moved to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.

He reportedly failed to attend the rescheduled meeting, prompting further police action as the investigation continued.

The police have yet to conclude their investigation into the allegations against Okorocha.

His release on bail does not amount to a determination of guilt, as the case remains under investigation.

Further developments are expected following his scheduled return to the Force Headquarters for additional questioning.
