The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, flagged off the projects in Akinyele, Ido, Ibadan North, Egbeda and Lagelu, saying the initiative was aimed at expanding access to electricity for households and businesses.
The projects cover Bola, Jiboye, Molade-Adelubi, Ogo Oluwa and Sooko-Elega, with a 17.74-megawatt battery energy storage system incorporated to support electricity supply.
The intervention is expected to reduce residents’ dependence on petrol and diesel generators, help businesses operate for longer hours and create an enabling environment for investment and job creation across the beneficiary communities.
Tegbe said the projects were being delivered through collaboration involving the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Paras Energy and Natural Resources Development Limited, the World Bank and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Oyo State Government, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents towards the realisation of the projects.
Meanwhile, the minister has dismissed reports of a planned electricity tariff increase, assuring Nigerians that the Federal Government has no plan to raise tariffs.
He urged the public to disregard the reports, adding that the government was focused on improving electricity supply and working towards round-the-clock power in parts of the country.
According to Tegbe, the government’s proposed energy zones include the Lagos-Ogun corridor, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor and Benin-Enugu-Port Harcourt corridor.
He added that efforts were also being made to strengthen the national grid across key generation and transmission locations to improve electricity stability beyond the initial zones.
Tegbe flagged off the Oyo projects on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing optimism that they would improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities in the communities they are designed to serve.
