Reason I’m Still Unmarried, Childless at 52 – Ruggedman

Legendary Nigerian rapper Ruggedman has explained why he remain unmarried and childless at age 52, citing the demands of his music career, a failed relationship and his vow never to have a child outside wedlock.

Ruggedman, whose real name is Michael Stephens, spoke about his relationship status during a radio interview, where he said he had always wanted to get married and have children.

The rapper said his career took up much of his time after he joined the Nigerian music industry, where artistes had to rely on their hustle to succeed.

“I am one of those who got into the industry back in the day where all we had was our hustle and we faced it and before you know it, time was gone. 2Baba was lucky to have found partners who were ready to walk that road with him, I wasn’t that lucky. I had a five year relationship that I thought would lead to marriage but something happened and it crashed,” he said.

Ruggedman also disclosed that he is currently not in a relationship and remains committed to his decision not to have children outside marriage.

“Currently, I’m not in any relationship. The only thing I vowed is that I will never have a child out of wedlock,” he said.

The rapper has previously spoken about his decision to remain unmarried, saying he is not under pressure to settle down and would do so when he is ready.

Born on September 20, 1973, Ruggedman rose to prominence in the Nigerian music industry in the early 2000s and became known for songs that addressed issues within the Nigerian hip hop scene.
