Soludo spoke at the inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, where he highlighted the participation of governors and political stakeholders from different political parties in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
According to a report by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), the governor said the gathering reflected an unusual degree of political alignment in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Soludo, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was based on shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
He pointed to the participation of about 31 governors at the event as evidence of the broad political support for the President, although the gathering did not necessarily represent a formal endorsement by every governor or Nigerian voter.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also defended the economic direction of the Tinubu administration, describing its approach as “pragmatic progressivism”.
He said the administration had taken difficult policy decisions to address structural economic challenges rather than postpone reforms.
Soludo argued that Tinubu’s understanding of public finance had influenced the direction of the reforms, adding that the administration’s decisions should be assessed against the economic challenges the country faced before and after the President assumed office.
While supporters of the government have pointed to economic adjustments and reform initiatives as signs of progress, critics have questioned how quickly the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians.
Soludo, however, maintained that the reforms were aimed at addressing long-standing economic problems and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
His participation in the APC campaign council inauguration, despite his membership of APGA, also highlighted the role of cross-party cooperation in the political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team said Soludo’s remarks placed economic policy and institutional performance at the centre of discussions surrounding the next presidential election.
