The singer advised emerging musicians to focus on building their careers, gaining public attention and connecting with fans rather than trying to imitate established stars.

According to Mayorkun, “trying to maintain a mysterious image like Wizkid as a newcomer could cause you to fade into obscurity”.

He suggested that upcoming artistes need to make themselves visible and build a solid fan base before adopting a more private public image.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, is one of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats stars and is known for keeping much of his personal life away from the public.

Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa, rose to prominence in 2016 with his breakout single, ‘Eleko’, after joining Davido’s record label, Davido Music Worldwide.

The singer has since established himself in the Nigerian music industry with songs including ‘Mama’, ‘Che Che’ and ‘Betty Butter’, featuring Davido.
