JUST IN: Veteran Nollywood Actor, Olofaina is Dead

Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor, Deji Aderemi popularity known by his stage name Olofa Ina is reportedly dead.

Olofa ina's demise was announced on social media by fellow actor, Saidi Balogun at the late hours of Thursday. 

We could not confirm the cause of his death as at the time this report is filed.

The late actor known for his understanding of Yoruba poetry and knowledge  was a renowned Nigerian actor and producer born on May 15, 1950, in Ede, Osun State. Born to Late Chief AbdulSalam Aderemi and Late Madam Aisha Aderemi in the Jagun-Olukosi compound, Ede, Osun State, during the reign of Late Oba John Adetoyese Laoye, the then Timi of Ede Land.

In 1957, Adedeji Aderemi began his education at St Peters Anglican Primary School, completing in 1962, followed by enrollment at Baptist Secondary Modern School, Ode-Omu, in 1963. He graduated in 1965 and received vocational training in carpentry at Olukorede Furniture Industry, completing in 1970.

He worked as a Grade II Officer with the Ministry of Works and Transport from 1970 to 1977, later as a Maintenance Officer with Daladson Hotel, Jericho Reservation, Idi-Isin, in Oyo State, from 1977 to 1980. He retired in 1980 to pursue full-time Theatre Arts Practice, founding the Olofa Ina Theatre Group in 1972.

The Olofa Ina Group pioneered epical histories of Yoruba warlords in the 18th and 19th centuries, recorded by Nigerian Television (NTV) Ibadan in the 1970s. Aderemi also recorded television productions, including Odetedo, Lakaaye, Kogun Maja, and Ade Oba.

Aderemi mentored aspiring artists and received honors from the Osun State Government in 2011. Known for rich Yoruba proverbs and idioms, he left a lasting impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry.

 His contributions to Yoruba theatre and film will be remembered, and he is survived by his family. May his soul rest in peace.
