Al-Qalam Schools Students Engage in Insightful Discourse on Community Issues

Students from Al-Qalam Schools, and other various high schools in Ibadan last Tuesday gathered at the American Corner on Magazine Road, Jericho, for a thought-provoking forum addressing pressing community issues. 

The event organized by the Black Girls Dreams Initiative, provided a platform for young voices to discuss and propose solutions on critical matters affecting their communities.

The event commenced with opening remarks by Khadijah Alade, the Coordinator and Project Manager, who emphasized the importance of engaging students in societal development and enhancing their communication skills. 

She noted that the initiative aligns with the goal of organizing the 4th edition of the Ibadan Schools' Debate Competition. 

Students from Schools in attendance participated in breakout groups and a debate competition, with topics ranging from innovative strategies to prevent bullying to broader social issues. 

Hussain Naheem, a student representing Al-Qalam Schools, shared his insights on anti-bullying strategies during a panel discussion. The event also featured poetry recitations and speeches from various speakers.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the event, Al-Qalam Schools highlighted that their students' involvement is part of an innovative strategy to promote continuous quality learning. 

The school stressed that participation in such events helps students in numerous ways, which includes improving communication skills, enhancing critical thinking, building confidence, fostering teamwork and collaboration, expanding knowledge, encouraging civic engagement, enhancing academic performance, and providing networking opportunities. 

It added that the benefits collectively contribute to the students' overall development and readiness to tackle real-world challenges.

In her remarks, the Director of Academics,  Al-Qalam Schools Ibadan, Hajia Rukayat Otun, noted that her students left the event feeling empowered and hopeful. 

She further maintained that their voices had been heard and their commitment to driving positive change was evident. 

Noting that the school community eagerly anticipates the future impact of these young leaders. she made it cleare that Al-Qalam Schools Ibadan shall continue doing best to  benefit her learners and the youths in general.
