Pope Francis has passed away following a stroke that caused a coma and “irreversible” heart failure, according to the death certificate released by the Vatican on Monday.
The 88-year-old pontiff passed away on Monday morning, almost a month after being discharged from a five-week hospital stay for treatment of double pneumonia.
