Man Faints After Wife Delivers Triplets in Kogi

A moment of joy quickly turned dramatic at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday, when a man identified as Adamu Muhammed Tenimu collapsed upon learning that his wife had given birth to a set of triplets.

Witnesses at the hospital recounted that Muhammed, overwhelmed by the unexpected news of the arrival of three girls, fainted shortly after being informed. 

Medical staff and bystanders acted swiftly to revive him, and he later regained consciousness.

The mother and her three newborn daughters are reportedly in stable condition, receiving care at the hospital’s neonatal unit. 

The babies, who weighed 1.8kg, 2.0kg, and 2.3kg at birth, are said to be responding well to treatment.

Speaking to journalists while still visibly shaken, Muhammed, who is currently unemployed, expressed both gratitude and distress. 

He said the family had only prepared for one child, as they could not afford regular scans during the pregnancy. The news of triplets came as a complete surprise.

“I give glory to God for this miracle, but I’m deeply confused and troubled,” he said, with tears rolling down his cheeks. “We barely managed to prepare for one baby. Now we have three, and I don’t even know how we’ll feed them or pay for their hospital bills. I’m jobless and we are struggling.”

He described the financial burden as overwhelming, adding that they were not even able to purchase basic baby items like diapers or formula. 

The emotional weight of the situation, he said, was too much to bear.

Sympathisers who witnessed the scene confirmed that while the birth brought joy, the family’s condition was dire. 

A family member who preferred not to be named appealed to the public for urgent support, emphasizing the need for food, medical supplies, and financial assistance to care for the newborns.

“This family is in desperate need. The babies are doing well, but they need help to survive. We’re calling on the government, NGOs, religious bodies, and kind-hearted Nigerians to step in and assist them,” the family member said.

Efforts are already underway among friends and neighbours to raise support for the family. 

Mr. Nuhu Alhassan, a colleague of the father, called on the Kogi State Government and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to take immediate action to support the family.

“This man is hardworking and law-abiding. This situation is beyond what he can handle alone. The government should not ignore this,” he stated.

Other well-wishers joined the appeal, urging charitable organisations and individuals to donate essential items, hospital supplies, and funds to relieve the family’s growing financial burden.

Sikiru Olamide, a resident, stressed that the joy of childbirth should not be overshadowed by anxiety over how to survive. 

“This is the time to stand together and show compassion. The family needs all the support they can get,” he said.
