Reps Approves N1.78trn FCT Budget for 2025

The House of Representatives has approved a total of N1.78 trillion as the 2025 budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The budget passed its third reading during Wednesday’s plenary, which was chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.

President Bola Tinubu had submitted the budget to the National Assembly on May 14, 2025, urging lawmakers to review and pass the proposal promptly.

During the budget defence session, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, informed the House Committee on FCT that a significant portion of the proposed expenditure was earmarked for capital projects.

According to Wike, N1.28 trillion—accounting for 72.3 percent of the total budget—would be dedicated to capital expenditure, while N494.1 billion, or 27.7 percent, would go toward recurrent spending.

The minister also noted that road infrastructure projects within the city and in surrounding satellite towns would be handled by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Satellite Towns Development Department.

Among the key ongoing projects are the dualisation and upgrade of the Ushafa War College/army checkpoint road and connecting roads, the construction of the Pai–Gomani road in Kwali Area Council, and the dualisation of the Kuje–Gwagwalada road.
