Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially switched political allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Friday in Uyo, the state capital, where the governor confirmed his defection after three months of engaging with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.
Governor Eno acknowledged the role the PDP played in his political journey but said it was time to take what he described as a "progressive step forward."
He explained that his decision was largely influenced by his admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a desire for Akwa Ibom to align more closely with the policies of the federal government.
While addressing residents, Eno pledged to continue serving the people diligently, stressing that his commitment to development remained unchanged regardless of party lines.
“As a servant leader chosen by the people, I have concluded my consultations and chosen to take a progressive path by joining the APC,” the governor stated.
