NYSC

The Federal Government has on Monday commenced of payment of the backlog of the new N77,000 monthly allowance for outgone members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Naija Metro News can recall that in September 2024, the government raised the monthly allowance for NYSC members from N33,000 to N77,000, noting the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 as the basis for the increase.

However, the new allowance only took effect in March 2025, leaving many corps members who had completed their service prior to this date eligible for arrears.

But, despite circulating rumors that these former corps members might miss out on the arrears, the government promised that all qualified corps member will receive their due benefits regardless of their current service status.

Meanwhile, the government seems to have fulfilled its promise of paying the arrears as many of the outgone corps members took to thier handles on social media to share the news.

One netizen who can be identified as Mary Joe while sharing alert of the arrear wrote; “This is So Amazing I didn’t see it coming. Federal government made a promise and seek to it… Guys I just received my Arrears,so if you’re an ex Corper from Batch A1 2024 check your alert…”

Another user, Engr Saleesu Sb on Facebook said; “I just received 44k in my Globus account. 2024 A1. Is like arrears don dey drop.”

Another user, Lumex Philemon, also in a comment section on Facebook said; “Plateau Ex coorper batch A stream 2. Receive mine.”

The backlog being processed is only N44,000 – which appears to cover only one month. It is unclear whether the payments will continue monthly, since most members are actually owed about three months’ worth of arrears.

  1. Actually the New minimum wage was approved in July 2024 and not September but the FG promised to backdate payment to May 2024,which means those whom were still serving as at May 2024 should be paid also, And as for my Batch C1 2023,we went into camp Nov 1,2023 and by 21th of Nov 2023,we were released, and from that time till around February 2024,some of us,were still sorting out relocation issues,so our active service year actually started in 2024 and not 2023,so we should be rightfully included among those to be paid the arrears and if going by what the FG said, that payment would be backdated to May 2025,which means we are being owned 6months arrears by the FG that is May,June, July, August, September and October, when we passed out from service, please they should remember us and everyone would be happy,I must commend the FG for keeping to their WORD,which is unlike the FG we used to know, where you can never bank on their word and I also want to appreciate the NYSC DG for the role he played in facilitating the whole process, Daddy Tinubu we love you ❤️,thank you so much, man wey sabi, man wey get swagi,DG we love you too ❤️, thank you so much,God bless you both and our Beautiful Nation Nigeria, now I can proudly say am a proud Nigerian 💚🤍💚, that's the way things should be
