Okocha Advises Osimhen Amidst Transfer Rumors

Nigerian football legend, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has offered his perspective to Victor Osimhen as speculation grows around the striker’s next career move after an impressive loan spell at Galatasaray.

In a conversation with Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor via Haberler, Okocha encouraged Osimhen to consider both his emotional connection and professional satisfaction in Turkey.

He suggested that staying at Galatasaray might be a sensible choice, even if it requires making some personal compromises.

“Turkey is a fantastic place to play football and live,” Okocha said. “Sometimes, making decisions in football means accepting sacrifices. Osimhen had a remarkable season at Galatasaray, and he appears happy there. So, why shouldn’t he continue with them? I love Turkey, and it seems he does too.”

Osimhen recently concluded his loan deal from Napoli, finishing the season with 37 goals after scoring in Galatasaray’s 2-0 win over İstanbul Başakşehir. His efforts were key to the club securing both the league title and the cup this season.

Galatasaray’s head coach, Okan Buruk, admitted that the player’s future is still unclear but praised Osimhen’s performance and expressed hope he would stay.

Fans of the club have launched a global campaign #staywithus, including a prominent billboard in Times Square, New York, calling on Osimhen to remain.

Although Osimhen has not yet publicly declared his next destination, reports indicate that Galatasaray has proposed a new contract offer worth €15 million per year, a €3 million increase from his current wage, which would make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

When asked if he had any insights on Osimhen’s future plans, Okocha responded cautiously, “I don’t know. Wherever he goes, I wish him the very best.”

Reflecting on his own stint in Turkey from 1996 to 1998 with Fenerbahçe, Okocha described those years as “wonderful,” fondly recalling the fans and the local food.

He concluded by praising his former club, saying, “Fenerbahçe is the greatest.”
