Gunmen have reportedly murdered Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lade Ward One, along with his son in Lile, a community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack occurred late at night when the assailants stormed the victims’ residence, leading to their tragic deaths. The motive behind the killings remains unclear.

Reacting to the incident, former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, issued a statement on Wednesday from Ilorin, describing the killings as “barbaric, painful and unacceptable.”

“This is a devastating loss. I am heartbroken by the news of the gruesome killing of Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Kpotun and his son. My thoughts and prayers are with their immediate family and the Patigi community in this difficult time,” Saraki said.

Saraki offered prayers for the departed souls and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. He further urged the Kwara State Government and security agencies to rise to the occasion and tackle the worsening security situation in the state.

“This rising tide of insecurity in our dear state must not be allowed to continue. Government and security agencies must act swiftly and decisively to prevent further tragedies,” he emphasised.
