Sanusi, Bayero Lead Separate Eid Prayers in Kano

 

The ongoing leadership tussle in Kano’s traditional institution played out publicly on Friday as both Muhammadu Sanusi II and Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero led separate Eid-el-Kabir prayers in the state capital.

At around 8:15 a.m., Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II observed the Eid prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid ground, where he was joined by a large congregation of worshippers. 

Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for Hajj, was the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

Sanusi, dressed in traditional attire, arrived on foot to the prayer ground, accompanied by a throng of supporters. 

After the prayers, he returned to Gidan Shettima, also on foot, drawing cheers from well-wishers lining the streets of Kofar Mata, Mandawari, and Wambai.

“This is what Eid means to us — unity, devotion, and shared faith,” said Dala resident Saminu Yusuf. 

“Seeing Sanusi among the people today is more meaningful than the Durbar.”

In a message issued through his press secretary, Ibrahim Shuaibu, the deputy governor called on Muslims to embrace the values of peace, sacrifice, and unity. 

He emphasized that Eid-el-Kabir symbolizes complete obedience to God and urged prayers for the safe return of pilgrims from Hajj. 

Gwarzo also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to good governance, accountability, and people-oriented policies.

Meanwhile, in a different part of the city, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero held a parallel Eid prayer session at the Nasarawa Mini Palace in the Nasarawa GRA. 

His prayer began at 8:00 a.m. and attracted a large gathering, including prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), such as the party’s state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, and several former state commissioners.

Delivering his Sallah message through spokesperson Abubakar Balarabe, Bayero called on the government to prioritize infrastructure and social development. 

He also offered prayers for national peace and security and appealed to Islamic scholars and clerics to continue guiding the youth through meaningful teachings and sermons.
