BREAKING: Tinubu Sends Shettima to Bring Buhari’s Body Home

Tinubu and Buhari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday following a lengthy illness.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Buhari died at approximately 4:30 p.m. in a hospital in the United Kingdom.

President Tinubu has spoken with the late president’s widow, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, and expressed his deep condolences.

As part of the government’s response, he has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the UK to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.

In honour of the late statesman, Tinubu also ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratic leader from 2015 to 2023, had earlier ruled the country as a military head of state between 1984 and 1985.

Further announcements are expected regarding burial arrangements and national tributes.
