Buhari’s Daughter, Hanan Expresses Gratitude to Nigerians for ‘Forgiving’ Father

Buhari and Hanan

Hanan, daughter to late ex President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for what she described as their forgiveness towards her father after his tenure as the country’s leader.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Hanan appreciated citizens who, despite their criticism or grievances during her father’s administration, chose to show compassion and forgiveness after he left office.

“Thank you for forgiving my father,” she wrote, in what many observers see as a rare and emotional public comment from a former first family member.

The message has stirred reactions online, with some praising the humility shown, while others used the opportunity to reflect on the highs and lows of Buhari’s eight-year presidency.

Some Nigerians highlighted issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and human rights violations under his leadership, while others acknowledged efforts in infrastructure development.

Hanan, a photographer and graduate of the UK’s prestigious Royal College of Art, generally keeps a low public profile but occasionally uses her platform to share family moments or patriotic messages.

She is the one that once flew on the presidential jet to Bauchi to cover an event, a behavior that drew umbrage from a large number of Nigerians.

Hanan’s message comes at a time when conversations around the legacy of her remain heated.

Following the recent announcement of her father’s death, many Nigerians took to social media to voice lingering frustrations over his administration’s shortcomings including economic decline, widespread insecurity, and allegations of corruption.

Amidst the critical reflections, however, some also called for restraint, urging a more balanced remembrance of the late former president’s years in office.
